The firm was established in 1899 by Michael R. Hegarty.

In 1981 Hegarty & Sons became Hegarty & Horgan when Virgil Horgan became the Principal of the Firm.

Since 1899 the Firm has represented private and public clients as well as supporting and promoting local community initiatives and organisations.
